Meet peter.

Peter richards is a 60-year-old straight white man and girl dad living in newport beach, california.

Adelaide burrows and Araceli seager are two young filmmakers living in los angeles, who happen to be roommates with peter’s daughter.

Peter reached out to Adelaide and Araceli with a desire to create an informational film about women. That was his pitch. “I want to make a documentary about women.” In discussing his ideas, the girls came to realize how little Peter actually knew on the topic. He couldn’t believe the injustices towards women that he was seeing around him. “did you know that women are not treated equally in this country?” he would say.

He sent the girls texts like, “Thinking about women’s issues… abortion, breast cancer, etc.” The new information plagued him! It was a girl dad culture shock. He admits that he just recently started paying attention.

He wants to tell the world what he has learned. The people need to know about this thing called feminism! Peter is passionate in his pursuit but clueless about the historical context and societal implications around feminism.

Adelaide and Araceli proposed an idea to him: he becomes the subject of this film, and we follow his journey as he expands his awareness beyond the bubble within which he has always lived. Together, they embark to create the film peter wants to be a feminist.

With humor, curiosity, and just the right amount of mid-life boldness, he engages in candid conversations with the women closest to him, scholars in Women and Gender Studies, and his male friends who may or may not share his enthusiasm for this journey. As he navigates these conversations, Peter learns what it takes to uplift women today.

In a world tiptoeing through cancel culture, Peter’s story brings hope and a refreshing take on unity. He’s willing to listen, learn, and have tough conversations. His on-screen adventure celebrates self-discovery, education, and how one man can start making sense of a movement that is reshaping the world.
